Not far from New York City, during the 1920's, the Point Lookout Post Office was floated to Meadow Island onto the salt marsh. It was during this most colorful era of baymen and bootleggers during the Great Depression, that the history of the Bay House began. Surviving harsh weather and a couple of hurricaines the original home succomb to the Dec. 7th storm of 1992.
Rebuilt, it is a far cry from its predecessor. With the help of my sons and a few friends, it has been reborn as a quaint "Cape Cod". This time the materials were transported to the island on a 14' Boston Whaler. With its solar and wind generated power supply, some modern conveniences, decks with beautiful views, we offer modest accommodations. Anyone who has spent time in a "V" berth would consider the bedroom " spacious".
Spring through fall you can dock your boat or arrange for pick-up. You can fish Striped Bass, Bluefish or Fluke, or just do a B&B. Bring your kayak and explore the island's waterways.
Winter offers an opportunity to waterfowl like the "old timers" from layout boat, sneak box or floating blind.
It's an experience you cannot have anywhere from the Maine Coast down to the Carolinas and...
It's only an hour from New York City!
